As Seamus, our Irish-Australian guy handles the all-important vintage attire, our Italian-Australian winemaker, studio member Andrew Pieri, tends to a tiny plot of newly-planted Carignan vines which are planted alongside the cellar door - yet more proof that RedHeads is at the forefront of experimental and niche winemaking in McLaren Vale (as if we needed it). These won’t feature in any of our 2011 wines obviously, but it’s food for thought for the years to come. Could McLaren Vale be the next southern hemisphere Carignan hotspot???
Yesterday we waved off two visitors from Direct Wines; Justin Howard-Sneyd, the company’s Global Wine Director, and Nick Taylor who manages Direct Wines’ USA arm. Both came over to get the low-down on all the latest RedHeads plans, which include the addition of new studio members for 2011. That's right, RedHeads is going to get an injection of new cutting edge, innovating winemaking blood on board later this year, so watch this space!
Our two DW guests bore the full brunt of this week’s heat as temperatures reached a stinking 42 on Monday. Our resident Berkshires (pigs) were not happy about the temperatures either, but they'll be put out of their misery soon enough...
As for humans, the heat has all our cellar door visitors reaching desperately for the ultimate refreshment as soon as they arrive – a glass of our Ranger & Apprentice Sparkling White.
